Gavin is a film maker, theatre director, acting coach, writer, critic and academic. He has directed over 80 film and theatre productions in the UK and Ireland. 

 

Notable productions include the British Premiere of Frank McGuinness' Gates of Gold, featuring William Gaunt, which was Critics' Choice The Sunday Times, Evening Standard, Time Out, The Daily Telegraph, Financial Times and Metrolife.

This production transferred to Trafalgar Studios in the West End to critical acclaim. 

 

Tom Murphy's The Gigli Concert with Paul McGann, Niall Buggy and Catherine Cusack. This production transferred to the 630 seat Music Hall space at the Edinburgh Assembly Rooms and was Critics' Choice in The Evening Standard, Time Out, The Independent on Sunday, The Observer, The Sunday Telegraph, The Independent, Edinburgh Guide and Feste.

Porridge by Dick Clement and Ian Le Frenais which toured the UK to critical acclaim including 16 weeks as Critics' Choice in The Daily Telegraph.

Rediscovered play by Irish writer Teresa Deevy Wife to James Whelan which was Critics' Choice in The Guardian, The Daily Telegraph and the Independent on Sunday.

Rediscovered play by Irish writer Mary Manning Go, Lovely Rose, which transferred to The Liverpool Tate Modern in 2019.

Cinnefoundation Prize - Cannes Film Festival - Longlist for short film Tainted Heart. 

BBC Talent New filmmaker Award - nomination for short film Target: Audience.

Samuel Beckett Award for Excellence in Theatre - nomination for Impressions on Seamus Heaney's Sweeney Astray. 

Off West-End Awards - nominations for Best Director and Best Ensemble Acting for David Edgar's Pentecost. 

Knowledge Exchange Award University of Liverpool - won prize for Go, Lovely Rose.

In July 2023 Gavin received a PhD from the University of Liverpool.
